2011 Seoul Motor Show, the Kia Naimo Concept made its world premiere yesterday. The car penned by Kia's international design team in Seoul, the car takes its name from the Korean word “Ne-mo”, which is pronounced ‘Neh-mo’ and means ‘square shape. The car is electric crossover utility vehicle (CUV), a B-segment sized concept car that will serve as a test-bed for the company's EV technology.

The car is powered by an electric motor developing 80 kW (109HP) and 280 Nm (206.5 lb-ft) of torque, allowing it to reach a top speed of 150 km/h (93.2 mph). The twin-pack 27 kWh battery located under the boot floor offers the Naimo a driving range of around 200 km (124 mi) on a single charge. The battery can be recharged in 25 minutes to 80 percent of its capacity, but full charge takes five and a half hours. In order to help achieving a reasonable driving range, the car is also fitted with special low-drag 20-inch alloy wheels.

2011 Kia Naimo Concept will join the company's test fleet of hybrid, electric and fuel-cell vehicles and will undergo testing in varying conditions to improve the EV technology that will later be applied to production vehicles. The car design boxy shape brings to mind the KV7 concept, while details like the assymetric sunroof, the blacked-out A-pillars or the unusual built-in LED taillights give the Naimo a unique look.

The Naimo electric crossover utility vehicle means 3.89 meters in length, the car has a relatively long wheelbase of 2.65 meters, with Kia making claims of a spacious cabin, with “exceptional” head, leg and shoulder room for the occupants. The car has no B-pillars and features rear-hinged doors to improve access to the cabin, while the boot-lid has a three-way split opening system for the easier loading of different-sized objects.

2011 Kia K5
The new Kia K5 it is easy to come to the conclusion that Kia has got off to a great start if they are planning on making the K5 a knockout. The K5 does not look like any of the previous Optima’s and this present generation model has very aggressive styling and a certain appeal that really makes it stand out. For those of us who are true car connoisseurs though a closer look will reveal some amount of design discord and it seems as though Kia has put in loads of crisp lines and creases to increase the masculinity of the vehicle but they may have been overdone.

2011 Kia K5 is impressive if you have one-dimensional eye-sight. What I am trying to say, is that if you look at each element individually then you may be impressed. What designers at Kia look like they have done, is given each part of the interior to a different designer without sharing the designs of the other elements. This results in there being no cohesiveness between; say the dashboard and the door panels. It seemed that Kia designers never thought these areas may appear together. The door panes are in themselves a non-thought out affair with the speakers protruding like a sore thumb and make the door look very lop-sided.

The steering wheel is also smaller than you would expect and is cluttered with a dozen buttons that make the Airbus A380 look like child’s play. Saying that a quarter of those buttons are meant for the K5’s cruise control, which is not normally found in mid-sized Korean cars and should make the engineers at neighboring Hyundai quite jealous as both their mid-sized offerings the Sonata and Grandeur do not have the cruise control option.

Vehicle Category: Sedan
Engines (petrol): 2.4 L, 4 cylinder, GDI, 200 HP, 345 Nm torque
Engine (petrol): 2.0 L, 4 cylinder, Turbo GDI, 274 HP, 420 Nm torque
Drive train: Front engine, 5 passenger, 4-door sedan, FWD
Transmissions (standard): 6-speed auto
Curb Weight: 2389 kg
0-100 kph: 6.8 secs (est.)
Mileage city/hwy: 9.3 / 11.8 kmpl
Base Price: $ 25,000 (est.)

The Kia K5 falls short on a number of front and is not a sporty car not is it a complete easy riding sedan. It will appeal in terms of its styling and design to those who are not too concerned and picky about refined looks as it has lines and creases all around (even if they are not coherent). The engine could do with a bit more power and it is more likely that buyers would prefer the better looking interiors of the Sonata over the Kia K5. We will have to wait and see how well the K5 does in the U.S. and only time will tell.

Kia is showing how serious they are about making attractive, competitively priced and fun to drive cars. The Kia Forte Koup is a sporty alternative to the traditional Kia Forte sedan. The Kia Koup features "fluid lines and balanced proportions," giving the two-door an overall sporty appearance. Up front the Forte Koup sports Kia's signature grille, which flows into wrap-around headlights. An up-swept beltline gives the Koup an aggressive look, with a rear diffuser giving the two-door a decisively sporty look.

The new Forte Koup is available in two trim levels -- base EX and up-level SX. The EX model sports 16 inch wheels and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 156 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque. The optional SX trim adds 17 inch wheels, a sportier suspension and a more powerful 2.4L engine, making 173 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque.

The EX model can be had with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, while the SX upgrades to a six-speed manual and a five-speed auto. The Koup EX achieves 25/34 mpg city/highway (no matter the transmission) with the SX posting figures of 22/32 mpg with the six-speed and 23/31 with the automatic gearbox.

Both trim levels come with standard dual body-color heated power mirrors with built-in turn signal indicators, body-color door handles, and tinted glass plus a sunshade band on the windshield on the outside, with a 6-speaker, USB friendly, Bluetooth enabled, Sirius equipped MP3 stereo system along with standard air conditioning, power windows and locks, and cruise control.

2011, the Kia Forte receives a few aesthetic and mechanical changes, but the most noticeable shift is the introduction of the Forte five-door hatchback. Edmunds says that with these upgrades, the Forte is “good enough to compete against perennial segment stars from Honda and Toyota.”

The Forte 5-door builds on the Forte sedan and Koup and features five doors, a new front grille, alloy wheels, paddle shifters and navigation. While it sits lower and exudes a performance stance, Kia says it does not compromise on practicality or space.

Details are scarce but two engines are available in the form of a 2.0-litre and a 2.4-litre. Power figures were not supplied. Transmission choices are a new 6-speed manual and an automatic.

The 2011 Kia Forte five-door hatchback will be available this fall, but Kia has not provided a release date for the 2011 Forte sedan and Koup.  Keep checking back as more information is released on Kia’s newest additions.

Kia Cadenza — at least for markets outside of Korea — the new sedan is the production version of the KND-5 show car. Developed under the codename KND-5, the luxury sedan will stand as Kia’s flagship sedan.

The car rides on the same front-wheel-drive platform as the Hyundai Azera, known as the “NF” chassis. Powering this new sporty sedan will be Hyundai’s Theta four-cylinder mill, although a V6 engine hasn’t been completely ruled out.

Despite what has been suggested by some media reports, the Cadenza is not necessarily a replacement to the aging Amanti flagship sedan. A larger model — codenamed “CH” — has been rumored to be the Amanit’s successor, although the Cadenza could still fill that role.

It remains unclear exactly what price point the VG will hit, but Kia is likely eyeing the coveted, yet crowded, volume mid-size sedan segment. However, it will be priced somewhere below the Amanti, which starts around $26,000 in the United States.

The front of the car sports Kia’s family-look grille which is “based on a symbolic representation of a tiger’s roaring countenance,” the company says. Overall the Cadenza strongly resembles its show car counterpart, although some features — such as the concept’s 20-inch wheels — look to have been toned down for production.

The 2011 Kia Cerato will be marketed in the USA and other international markets, such as South Korea, Middle East and China. As we also learned, Kia will not put it on sale in Europe where it has achieved a tremendous success with its Cee'd hatchback. For the past couple of years, the Cee'd has been the best-selling Kia car in Europe.

The all-new Cerato does not only bring a new body-style to the Forte/Cerato range, but also introduces several styling and refinement improvements. In addition, the model also boasts some important technical improvements, which will all be also featured on the up-coming 2011 Forte Koup and Forte sedan models!

The 2011 Forte hatchback will be available with Kia's 2.0L Theta II engine, which packs 156 horsepower and propels the vehicle from 0-100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. The smaller, 1.6L four-cylinder engine with estimated power output of 124 horsepower, will also be available in some international markets and mos likely, not in the USA or Canada.

Kia Cerato Hatch. Along with doing all my day to day activities, the Cerato helped me move houses and also went on a trip to Surfers Paradise with my best friend, Hope Lawson, and her boyfriend. Our expectations of this car were greatly exceeded and it pleasantly surprised us with its capabilities. Not only is this car fantastic, but it convinced me to reconsider my dislike for hatchbacks and I can honestly say, this is a car I would love to own one day.

Kia has embodied some of today’s best design’s to create a sleek and chic looking Cerato that comes in 8 different colours. It boasts 17 inch alloy wheels with a chrome radiator grille and body coloured bumpers. Adding to its stylish exterior is the rear spoiler, chrome tip rear muffler and tinted glass. Whilst driving the car, the cruise control, paddle shifters and leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, ensure comfort and ease for the driver. The six function trip computer allows you to check how many km’s you have left on the tank, the fuel consumption, digital speed and many more. Alloy foot pedals add an extra snazzy touch to the interior and the drivers foot rest is another added comfort.

Premium cloth trim on all 5 seats, metal look interior trim and a 6-way drivers seat are included features of the Cerato which has an amazing amount of space, especially when the rear seats are folded down. When I was moving houses, I was beyond surprised at the amount of boxes, ironing boards, lamps etc that I was able to stuff into this compact car that is deceptively spacious. The boot space of this little car is a whopping 550L which is extended greatly when the rear seats are folded. There is a large amount of storage for all your bits and pieces including 6 cup holders and generous glovebox and center console. The Cerato has a fantastic audio system including bluetooth connectivity, MP3 capatability, steering wheel controls, 6 speaker system with a power bass.
